If you’re travelling down the A30 this summer – don’t miss out on a real treat if you’re near Honiton.

I’ve driven past the big layby in Monkton a number of times – but hadn’t stopped to see what the Otter Valley Farm sign was all about. Having made the effort to investigate recently, I’m now not sure if my car will be able to ever make it past there now without stopping!

Otter Valley is an award winning ice cream – but their real coup is that they have put an ice cream hut and lovely lawned seating area in the corner of one of their fields – which just happens to lead straight off the layby – so it couldn’t get much more convenient!

The ice cream hut is spotless and the ladies who serve you are really lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. There are ice creams, sorbets and even an ice cream which is served with an espresso coffee poured over it. As well as the traditional flavours, they also have more unusual options including orange marmalade and blueberry & blackberry mix.

I liked that the cones were handed to you with a serviette wrapped round – which also came in very useful as it was a hot day! Prices were very reasonable with a one (generous) scoop cone starting at £2. You can also buys tubs of ice cream to take home.

All in all, well worth a pit stop for!  Why not pop over to their Facebook page and give them a ‘like’ too!
